Recommended Classes  for

beginning students (all ages):

*Beginning Drawing: projects teaching learning how to draw, terms,

techniques & practical application.

 

Clay Mask Making: 

Students create several beautiful masks and learn about some of the cultural significant to mask making.

 

*Stipple Acrylic Painting: 

Students learn about the art of pointillism and crate their own works of art developing their own style.

 

*Beginning Watercolor:  Students learn technique and color and how to create beautiful watercolor paintings.

 

 

*Cartooning:  Starting from the beginning,

students learn about

creating cartoons.

 

*Painting Discovery: 

Discovery is right!  This class teaches the artist how to use paints, brushes and paper. 

Studies are done with tone, positive and negative shapes, color wheels and more.

 

Creative Drama:

Role playing games are taught. Expression and self- confidence is learned through enjoyment and interaction.

 

Mask Making:  Paper mache, ceramic, plaster and other methods of mask making are used to create fun and

interesting masks.

 

Comic Book Creations:

students create their own

characters and story line

developing a 10 to 20 page comic book.  *Adult/teen/child

 

Writers Ingenuity:       Good ideas are nurtured to become fantastic stories!  Children learn how to write & create characters and plots. Group critiquing and sharing helps build the story and self-esteem. *Adult classes taught separately.

 

Ceramic Murals:  students create their own 9 tile

mural and assist in creating a larger mural to be

donated to a public place.

 

Hand Made Tiles: 

students learn to create their own molds for casting hand made tiles. 

glazing and underglaze painting techniques are taught.

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE:

Parents may drop children off no earlier that 10 minutes before class and pick up should be no later than 15 minutes after class.  Students arriving earlier or staying later interrupts the flow of other classes.

      Parents will be responsible for their own students travel arrangements -delivery and pick-up of students participating in the “On Location” activities.

CLASSES MAY BE DESIGNED AROUND A SPECIFIC STUDY INTENDED TO MEET CORE CURRICULM.  However, parents may need to add or adapt more information to fill in gaps due to time constraints.          

 

If you do not see a class here that meets your needs, please call and see if we can create one for you.  We offer the highest quality education for all ages in these classes offered here and in creating new ones.

 

These classes are no-fail, multilevel, multi-populace, multicultural classes.  The students may range in ages with the final project varying depending on experience and skill level.

  

Classes are designed around one hour increments: 5 minutes greeting and setup, 45 minute instruction and work time, 5 minute review and summary, 5 minute clean up. We ask that parents please be on time for both drop off and pick up.  Thank you.

 

Coordination of knowledge and effort in a spirit of harmony between educators, parents and students bring about success and joy.

 

BEGINNING DRAWING

            This is a foundation class for drawing with the basic techniques of line, shape, size, and direction, texture, rendering and seeing as an artist.  Introduces the vocabulary for future drawing classes.

 

PAINTING DISCOVERY

            This is a foundation class for painting which includes understanding materials, watercolor and acrylic differences, paper, styles and basic color theory. Introduces the vocabulary for future painting classes.

 

CLAY FOUNDATIONS

            Learning about clay, firing and finishes, students create a variety of clay projects teaching different techniques. Introduces the vocabulary for future clay classes.

 

ART FROM OTHER COUNTRIES

            Understanding our world’s history is fun when you create a bit of their culture using many forms of art.  A list of countries and projects are decided upon at the beginning of each group session.  A list of countries and projects can be adapted.  Parents are encouraged to submit suggestions to meet the needs for their core curriculum.  Classes can be set up for one country and 8 projects from that country or 8 countries and one project from each country.

 

PLAYING WITH THE MASTERS

            Learning the techniques of the Master painters is fun and exciting for students.  From learning about the colors on the Masters palettes, to their “style of painting”, students copy the painting methods with different mediums to add fun to the mix.

 

PLAYING WITH PAPER

            Students learn how to make hand made paper.  Understanding different types of paper and projects created from paper. (These projects may vary by age groups depending on eye hand coordination and tool usage. ie: exacto blade verses scissors)

 

VARIETY CLASS FOR KIDS (2 hr)

            This class gives the students fun and creative art projects that they work on from week to week.  Includes a variety of mediums including clay, painting, drawing and crafts.

 

BONES, BONES, BONES

            What a fun way to learn about the body discovering how to draw bones.  Long bones, short bones, flat bones—from the skull to the toes and all in between.  Students will use a variety of mediums to render the drawings.

 

COPY CATS - MASTERS STUDIES

            Learning about the paintings the Masters have painted and then reproducing the same pictures, students learn and remember about famous artists, recognizing their work.  A variety of mediums will be used.

 

KID’S BEGINNING NATURE SKETCH BOOK

            Students learn about the natural world of insects, flora, rocks and much more.  How to document and research plants after sketching them is a valuable skill.  A variety of mediums will be used.  This class requires students to use their own research time to complete some of the projects.  The sketch books are priceless.

 

PAINTING WITH ACRYLIC  PART 1

            Students learn the versatility of acrylic painting.  The techniques of painting, transferring images and rendering of different surfaces make this a smorgasbord of fun.

 

CLAY TILES

            Children learn to create several different types of ceramic tiles including making a ceramic tile mold of their own. (ie: rolled tiles, layered tiles, bisque to glaze and poured)

 

BEGINNING WATER COLOR

            Students learn about color mixing, the materials used, painting with water colors and the simplicity and beauty of this medium.

 

BEGINNING COLORED PENCILS

            From techniques of creating a simple blend of colors to rendering patterns, this class teaches the students about the use of colored pencils – waxed and chalk base. Introduces the vocabulary for future colored pencil classes.

 

BEGINNING PERSPECTIVE

            Students learn about one and two point perspective.  This is a basics class of objects, landscapes and capturing visual perceptions.  Introduces the vocabulary for future perspective classes.

 

ART & MUSIC

            Measurement, coordination of theme and blending of the elements, students learn about the mathematics in both, music and art, emotions of color, creativity of design in art and music.

 

BEGINNING WATER COLOR PART 2

            Expanding the techniques and understanding of watercolor, students work on transparencies, contrast, the look of water, still life and landscapes.

 

YARN & LOOM CREATION

            Useable and decorative projects are created using easy to make looms.   Discussing looms and yarns through the ages, their development and uses teach the students pattern logic from simple crochet of thread to elaborate silk materials for clothing.  (Students will be asked to do some research on their own for this class creating a notebook. Can also help with the study of other countries for history or I-Search papers for Intermediate level 7th – 8th grade core English requirements.)          

 

MODELING CLAY ILLUSTRATION BOOKS

            Stepping out of the conventional form of illustration, students write a short story and then, create the characters out of modeling clay!  Each scene is created and developed to flow with the student’s story.  Stories become outrageously fun.  Students feel a new sense of creativity.

 

BASIC FIGURE DRAWING

            Learning to draw a person with the correct dimensions can be amazingly easy when the students understand the “bulk” of a human being.  Students take a beginning look at foreshortening, clothing, and physical structure.  Starting with a magazine then a doll and working up to a live model, each student will use several mediums to sketch and render their drawings.

 

WRITING BOOKS

            This class talks about books, the evaluation of books, what it takes to write a story and creating a book.  Each student will create one or more simple books.  ie: child’s book, “How To…”, Short story Fantasy or Fiction, autobiography, etc.  (This class requires some outside time for writing and research.)

 

WRITING BOOKS Part 2

            This class continues on from the first class and studies the methods of editing and submitting books to publishers, finding a market or venue for the book and the process of becoming a published author.  (This class requires some outside time for writing and research.)

 

HAND MADE BOOKS

            This class is specifically designed to create hand made books, teaching about bindings and a brief history of hand made books.  Students will create 4 different types of books including illustrating a hand painted page. 

 

BEGINNING FANTASY DRAWING

            Students love the wonderful world of fantasy.  In this class they learn to draw fantasy creatures, plants, technology and so on.  There is a twist to this in that the students will be asked to describe their fantasy characters – the who, what and where’s of them!  Drawing physical structure, personality, and emotions, will be taught.  These renderings can be finished in cartoon style or illustration.

 

PAINTING OCEAN STUDIES

            This painting class will use both watercolor and acrylic to paint ocean life and views.  Basic seascapes will begin the class and then students will be encouraged to bring in reference materials to create a 3 day project. 

 

CLAY– UTAH HISTORY

            Students create their own petra glyphs rock drawings, pots, “gun powder horn” and much more.

 

FAMILY HISTORY WRITING

            Students learn and tell their own families history using a collection of photographs and stories handed down throughout their generations.  This form of journal writing helps teach documenting personal life.

 

PAINTING SURREALISM

            One of the fun filled technique classes, students learn about surrealism and create their own masterpieces!

 

DRAWING WITH INK

            Using hand dipped pen and brush; the students create with inks.  Working through the techniques, Students learn the basics of sketching, patterns, textures, light studies, working up to creating and rendering a final finished piece.

 

DESIGNING A DREAM HOME

            Learning to read blueprints and design a home, students use their imagination and practical sense to design and layout a home.  Considerations of such things as plumbing, type of heating, and decorating.

 

DESIGNING A DREAM HOME

PART 2

            Students create a scaled model of the home design for Part 1, out of Balsa wood and other materials.

 

CLAY 2-D TO 3-D

Learning to make patterns to create a 3 dimensional object out of clay such as  a box, fish, angel or wizard.

 

CLAY ANIMALS

            Capturing the realistic look of a clay animal is the goal.  Students will create a 5”to 10” piece.  Animal will be of students choice. (beginning sculpture class - basic)

 

ILLUSTRATED POETRY

            Creating poetry is always fun, but adding the element of illustration makes the piece more memorable to those who create it and read it!  Students will study several forms of poetry and create poems from each style.  Illustrations will be completed in several mediums.

 

YARN & LOOM CREATION Part 2

            Students continue to develop their skills of patterns and logic by creating their own designs for looms and seeing it through to the actual completed projects.  These projects can be as simple or as complicated as the student chooses. ie: basic wall hangings or rugs to bedspreads or murals.

 

I  S.A.I.D. ( Individual, Social and Interpersonal Development) Class

            FUN!  This class studies the reactions of student’s feelings and observations of family and community reactions to random acts of kindness and gratitude.  Students learn to recognize service of others, friendships and bonding.  Projects include art, participation and observation. This class also discusses the social skills of appropriate ways to talk and thank those around us, safely.  All activities are by permission of the parents only.  One example is to create “Thank You” notes and cards to give to people in the community that the student comes into contact with, who “help” or provide a “service”.  From the local bagger at the grocery store to a Congressman, a custodian in a local building,  or a farmer in Iowa-  students are taught to recognize how each persons life is effected by the acts of another and how saying “Thank you” to  family members or a stranger, improves the quality of our lives.  A student check list of activities to do in and with others will be handed out.  Each student completing the list will receive a certificate of “Outstanding Community Service”.

 

 

Minimum amount of students to carry a class are 4.

Maximum amount of students to a class depend on class type but are designed for 6 to 12 students.

 

Payment Methods:  Cash, Money Order, Cashiers Check, Personal Check.

            Personal checks must be written and processed prior to first day of classes.

 

Payment Due: One Week prior to classes starting as to have the teachers and supplies available.

Special arrangements may be made for some who have already established a payment history with us of  paying the first day of class.

 

Refunds: If classes have not been attended, up to 2nd week, a full refund will be extended.  Refund will be prorated after that point.  We will be glad to work it out.  (We have only had 1 refund in 14 years – 1 student received a scholarship to Juilliard in.)

 

Completing Curriculum on Syllabi’s:  Our students are all individuals with as many learning styles as there are students.  We are proud of each individual student and their successes.  The class will progress at the level of the syllabi, but the individuals may exceed the requirements adding and creating more to the projects or refine specific skills and do a more in depth study of any given area.  Students work at their own level and are not compared with each other.

 

Altering Curriculum on Syllabi’s:  Curriculum may be altered to meet requirements of students and staff with parental input.  If the class is altered in any major way for more than one or two students, the class may be renamed and scheduled at a different time to meet the needs of all the students.

 

Creating Classes:  We welcome new classes!  All classes are required to meet the high standards set by C.L.A.S.S. Art School.  Syllabi’s and lesson plans must be submitted for approval before class is scheduled.  We value the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual well being of our students.
